Belle Joli is french for beautiful senses or a “delight to the senses.”  The Jackson family views wine and wine making in this way.  Each wine should be experienced by the sense of sight, smell, and of course taste.  Our wine delights the senses of our souls bringing excitement and pleasure to life.  The name Belle Joli also pays homage to the beautiful, richness of the famous Black Hills where the dream began to grow for the Jackson family.   

Jackson vineyards are located on the northern edge of the Black Hills of South Dakota.  The Jackson family started their vineyard in 2000 with a small acre of grapes in Belle Fourche.  Belle Fourche, French for beautiful forks, is located where the rivers fork into one large body of water: the Belle Fourche river.  Here the natural richness of the soil and the growth potential of grapes in South Dakota were fully realized.  Twenty more acres were planted in 2007 to continue the quest for a true South Dakota wine product.  Matthew Jackson, estate enologist, whom received his education from the Fresno State enology program, began creating the wines that optimize the potential of the soil to grow the grapes that make a great wine.  Like the rivers came together to one fluent water mass, so to do the Belle Joli wines begin life and take form.  The Jackson family has used their vision of a Black Hills vineyard and a passion for wine to create wines that are grown, harvested, and bottled in western South Dakota.
